Membership Support of Sunday School

[Reported by a Member of a Branch Church]

The greatest of spiritual teachers, Christ Jesus, expressed his love for little children in these words: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14). A need was felt in a Sunday School for deeper inspiration and a more conscious sense of that love which draws little children to the Christ. With the permission of the executive board of the church, a series of monthly Sunday School teachers' meetings was held. For these occasions each teacher was asked to bring a citation from our Leader's writings, a testimony of healing which had taken place in his class, or a paragraph or two from the Christian Science periodicals on the subject of teaching.

Over a period of several months, these meetings gave the teachers an opportunity to hear reports on various ways in which the children were taught to practice the law of Love in their daily experience. Other subjects which were brought up for discussion were discipline, regularity of attendance, keeping in touch with absent pupils, and so on.

Reports of this activity at church business meetings brought increased co-operation and support of the church membership. This unified, consecrated effort was manifest in clearer teaching and better healing. A flame of spiritual enthusiasm was kindled by this consistent tending of the light of Love. This light, growing constantly brighter, illumined the thought of the children and awakened in them a greater love for our Leader's teachings and a keener interest in the lessons. Thus the entire church membership contributed to the progress and expansion of the Sunday School. Love's law, which enfolds the Sunday School, is the law of spiritual attraction, whereby the words of our Master are fulfilled, "Suffer the little children to come unto me." Love discloses that truly they are children of light.
