I first turned to Christian Science not for physical healing, but to find a satisfactory religion. Although I had read my Bible twice daily, and knew it was in reality my only source of comfort, yet I often did not gain the help for which I yearned. I knew, however, that the fault lay not in the Bible, but in my lack of receptivity. Christian Science has taught me that the Bible contains a vital message for each one of us now, whereas I used to think that most of what we read applied to a past age.

I did not accept the healing power of Christian Science until, after many years, I learned that it does not aim to heal matter but to replace mortal mind with the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." In this way we rise in thought, and the discords of materiality slip away.

Some years ago I was healed of a complete mental breakdown. As I was far from home, I was taken to a mental institution. Although I was not allowed to communicate with a practitioner, yet I knew that work was being done. When I had been in the home only a short while the head nurse said to me, "Do you know your recovery has been marvelous?" I strongly disliked being in that environment, but I resolved that inasmuch as I was there, I would try to be a comfort to the other patients, and I set myself to do little kindnesses for anyone who needed help. It was Christian Science alone which brought me through this difficulty in such a short time.
