Insubordination Does Not Exist

This arresting statement is made by Mary Baker Eddy on page 271 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Neither emasculation, illusion, nor insubordination exists in divine Science." With so much insubordination to all that is right in the world about us, it is reassuring to the Christian Scientist to ponder the unchangeable truth that no phase of insubordination exists in divine Science. Divine Science, he is learning, is spiritual reality, Truth's kingdom revealed, ever findable and understandable by each individual.

In the oftentimes disappointing efforts of nations to work together; in the hectic relations between capital and labor; in the unworthy conduct of mortals toward one another in their homes, in society, in business; in the willfulness and disrespect for authority of many children and young people, insubordination or disobedience to Principle seems rampant. Often it seems as though a nation, a group, or an individual is blindly resolved to have its, or his, way and no other, regardless of what is basically just and right and in accordance with the law of God, good.

But insubordination does not exist. It is not a verity of Life. It is a lie, a falsity, a fiction. It is as unsubstantial as ignorance. It is no more a quality or condition of man, Principle's idea, than is sickness. Because it has no legality, it can be nullified and its detrimental effects on the individual or on groups of individuals can be lessened and neutralized. The spiritual fact that insubordination is unconceived by and unknown to Mind, and so unexpressed by a single one of Mind's ideas, must prevail over this disruptive falsity.
