"With one accord in one place"

In reading the stirring account of the Acts of the Apostles as related in the New Testament, one is impressed with the frequency with which the record of their acts is prefaced with the words "with one accord." On that inspired day of Pentecost, when "every man heard them speak in his own language," and when "there were added unto them about three thousand souls," we are told that "they were all with one accord in one place." One may ask what it was that brought these followers of Christ Jesus "with one accord in one place" and endowed them with such transcendent power. Was it not unselfed love of the great cause which their Master had left to them to uphold and prosper, to further by doing the works he had done?

Are we today, the followers of that same Master and of the Leader who has made plain his way, able to be as fully "with one accord in one place," and experience a Pentecostal day? Indeed, should we not exceed the power manifested in that earlier day, since we have been given the exact Science whereby to demonstrate this power? On page 202 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and our Leader, writes, "Outside of this Science all is mutable; but immortal man, in accord with the divine Principle of his being, God, neither sins, suffers, nor dies." Here we are shown the way in which all can truly be in accord; that is, for each to be "in accord with the divine Principle of his being."

In her book "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 143), speaking of contributions that had come in for building The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy makes this interesting statement: "A quiet call from me for this extra contribution, in aid of our Church Building Fund, found you all 'with one accord in one place.' Each donation came promptly; sometimes at much self-sacrifice, but always accompanied with a touching letter breathing the donor's privileged joy." What is this "one place" from which donors scattered in many places over the world-wide field sent these evidences of love for the Cause of Christian Science? Surely it was the only "one place" there can be, that is, the consciousness of infinite divine Mind, divine Love. So whether we are alone in what seems to sense a desert place or are gathered with thousands in a beloved edifice, we can at all times all be together of "one accord in one place," and the world will receive the pentecostal fire of inspiration and revelation and unmistakably feel the power of that one Mind whose law is immutable and inviolable.
