The Magnitude of Gratitude

When our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, provided in the Church Manual definite opportunities for the expression of gratitude for healings received in Christian Science, she was undoubtedly far more keenly aware of the import of acknowledging such benefits than is the average student. It is evident that Mrs. Eddy realized the blessing of acknowledging Him in all ways, for throughout her writings she repeatedly emphasizes the importance of gratitude.

It is natural for one who has received healing in Christian Science to be grateful for his deliverance from some discordant condition, and to be eager to tell others of his healing. But if one would compass the fullness of gratitude, it is not enough to be grateful for one's individual healings and blessings. The demands of divine Love are far more exacting.

Until the student includes in his silent acknowledgment of God's goodness an appreciation of every healing that is voiced in his presence, or that he reads in the Christian Science periodicals, he has not gained the full meaning of gratitude.
