In the many years during which...
In the many years during which I have been a student of Christian Science I have had various proofs resulting from the study and faithful application of this truth.
To me the following is an outstanding healing. I was called in the night, awakened out of sleep, and found when trying to stand that it was painful and difficult. I resisted this error, but seemed unable to declare the truth. Whether I was unconscious for a moment I do not know. I wanted a drink of cold water, a step or two away, but was too filled with fear and pain to even try to get it. It was a time for me to depend entirely on God. After a while I went to sleep. In the morning I was still unable to walk freely, but was capable of thinking more clearly, and really applied the truth to the situation as we are taught in Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, pp. 390, 391), "Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit." In an hour, not more, I was completely healed. I had a busy day, and was so happy and grateful to God for this rapid recovery from what seemed a threatening, incapacitating disease.
About seventeen years ago a condition on my foot, apparently a bunion, was completely healed by right thinking and the use of our textbook. When pouring boiling water into a hot-water bottle I accidentally spilled some over my whole hand. I refused to look at the hand, but thought of Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., p. 392): "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously." There was not a trace of a burn the next morning.
