Vital Lecture Preparation

Christian Science is a divine revelation. Its glorious mission is to make known to all mankind the healing presence of God, and the success of this mission depends upon the loyalty and love of all Christian Scientists, rather than upon just a few.

This revelation which came to Mary Baker Eddy, the spiritually-minded Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, is the second and final appearing of the healing Christ, Truth, which Jesus taught and demonstrated, and is of invaluable worth to the whole world. It is not just another search after Truth; it is the God-revealed truth of being which contains the true solution to every human problem. What a joyful charge is placed upon all faithful followers of our inspired Leader to let the living Christ, which never fails to heal and save, be expressed in daily living. Every pure thought, every kind word and self-forgetful deed, counts, and it is well to remember that our fellow men may judge Christian Science by what they see us express. Is not this continuous preparation for a Christian Science lecture?

A Christian Science lecture is like an open window through which the bountiful blessings of the Christ-presence may pour into receptive, hungry hearts. Immediate preparatory work for the giving of a lecture, in compliance with the recommendations of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, has its necessary and inspiring place. However, just as 'the effectiveness of today's sunshine in opening the flowering bud depends upon the light and warmth of previous days, so the effectiveness of lecture preparation and of the lecture it self largely depends upon the degree in which individual Christian Scientists have demonstrated the Christ in their daily lives, upon the purity of their aims and purposes and the "intents of the heart."
