I am very grateful for Christian Science

I am very grateful for Christian Science. I did not take up the study of Science for a healing, although I really needed help very much. I had been under a doctor's care for fifteen years just previous to taking up Christian Science and was still taking medicine. It was soon after World War I broke out that I became interested in Science. I was an active member of the orthodox church which I attended but did not seem to get what I wanted, an understanding of the Bible.

In the summer of 1917 my husband was out of employment. We went to see my sister, who was a Christian Scientist, and were relating to her our financial need, when she said, "Why don't you go to see a Christian Science practitioner?" At that time my husband thought it would be an odd thing to do, to go to a religious man and ask him to help one get work. Nevertheless, he went to see the practitioner, and came home rejoicing, for they had had a lovely talk together. The practitioner asked him to read and study the question, "What is man?" and its answer on pages 475-477 in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The practitioner told him he would help him. He also told him of a person who needed someone to fill a position, and recommended that he go to see this person. My husband was obedient to all that was requested of him and in a few days he obtained a position; but most lovely of all, his thought was uplifted and filled with joy. The day he went to the practitioner my sister presented us with a new copy of Science and Health, for which we were very grateful.

My husband, our son, and I began to attend the Christian Science church, and to take up the very important study of the Lesson-Sermon from the Bible and Science and Health.
