Signs of the Times
"Choose ye"
Sir Stafford Cripps, as quoted in
The United Church Observer
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Sir Stafford Cripps spoke to the great opening rally of the World Youth Conference words of warning. The atomic age, he said, has created a spiritual problem rather than a material one.
The future of the world will not depend on our capacity for scientific advance, but on our ability to develop the spiritual power within to control ourselves and our nations for self-sacrificing co-operation for the good of all. If we can do this, he said. "It is possible for the nations of the world to live together in peace and harmony."
