The Activity of Truth

The great verity of existence— man's oneness with his creator, his resulting perfection and indestructibility—has nowhere been more succinctly expressed than by Jesus when, in Solomon's porch, he declared, "I and my Father are one."

Mary Baker Eddy, who has made clear to this age the teachings of the Master, elaborates Jesus' statement of truth in a memorable sentence on pages 465 and 466 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." There she writes, "Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe."

It will be remembered that Jesus was threatened with stoning for his misunderstood utterance. And Mrs. Eddy was not without her detractors as a result of her restatement of it. Jesus took refuge in the logical conclusion, found in the tenth chapter of the Gospel of John. "If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not." Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 459). "The tree must be good, which produces good fruit."
