The Almightiness of God

To know that there is a power of good ever at hand which is mightier than any human power, destructive force, or material law, brings great assurance. This is so because the Principle of all true power is God, and divine power is supreme. It can never be suspended, outpowered, or overpowered. Therefore unprincipled forces—fear, hate, destruction, sickness, death—are powerless. The understanding of the almightiness of infinite good blesses and protects humanity, simultaneously annihilating physical and mental discords.

Recognizing this divine power as ever active in human affairs, the Psalmist confidently sang, "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." Even when surrounded by enemies bent on destroying his life, David walked in serenity because he had an abiding sense of God's protecting power. Down through the ages the spiritually-minded everywhere have found inspiration and courage in this declaration of the activity of good to overcome evil.

Today, students of the Bible know the deep meaning of David's words, for Christian Science clearly sets forth that the children of the Most High are spiritual ideas, reflecting God's almightiness. But mortals, imbued with the belief that life is material and that physical force is relentless, discount the potency of ever-present good.
