I feel that I must put into writing...
I feel that I must put into writing my gratitude for all the blessings Christian Science has brought to me. Many years ago a friend presented this truth to me, and it was because of a wonderful healing she received through Christian Science that I became interested. I have had many proofs of the healing influence of Truth. Many nervous conditions have been overcome through a better understanding of God and man.
Some years ago I was staying at a guest home in the country. One morning, while playing a game of ball with my son, I turned very quickly to catch the ball and gave my back a severe strain. I was unable to telephone for help, so felt I had to work it out for myself. For several days I suffered very much and was hardly able to walk, even with a cane. I felt very much discouraged one afternoon, and went to my room and asked God to enable me to see the light. I felt I could not go on. Then a few lines from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, brought a message of hope and courage into my thoughts (p. 495): "Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony." The word "support" filled my consciousness and I knew I needed no other support than the power and presence of God. I was able to stand upright, and went for a walk in the bush. It seemed a sanctuary, with "the loveliness of Love" everywhere. I was free, and went back to the house singing.
On another occasion I had an attack of laryngitis and could not speak above a whisper. The suggestion came that I should not be able to fill my position as Second Reader on the following Sunday. Picking up the concordance to the Hymnal and my hymnbook, I sat down and found all the hymns with the word "voice." It was a struggle for a time, and I put the books down in despair, only to pick them up again. I came to Hymn No. 324:
