Several years ago I was led to...
Several years ago I was led to Christian Science. I thank God each day for revealing the truth to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I am grateful for her faithfulness in bringing this "pearl of great price" to the world. I realize more and more that as we strive to have that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," our lives will unfold in greater harmony and peace.
With the hope that it will help some mother who is facing the false belief that she is giving up a loved one in this present warfare I should like to relate the following experience. When my son, now a combat pilot, volunteered for the armed forces, he was a college student with a very bright future ahead of him. Naturally I was disappointed that his plans had to be changed, but I was proud that he wanted to serve his country.
Although Christian Science had brought me through deep waters many times, I did not realize how alert I should have been to prepare myself for this particular testing time. On the day my son received his papers to report for duty, it was a shock to me, for they came nearly two months sooner than we had expected them to. I knew I had earnest work to do, for I was filled with fear and unhappiness. All through the day and night I worked to know, as we are taught in Christian Science, that there is no separation in Mind. But the more I worked the more I seemed to become mesmerized with the belief that I was giving him up. I had a very empty, lonely feeling. The next day I was still wrapped in the mist of mortal mind's belief of separation. I went to my room and opened our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, to these lines (p. 304): "This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy."
