Right Identification

Recent events have shown the necessity for unmistakable identification, especially for those seeking employment in war industries and for those serving in the armed services. Such precautions emphasize the need of the Christian Scientist to devote earnest thought to what he knows is his own true identity.

Investigation of this subject is likely to cause the student no little surprise at the type of identity he has regarded as his own. He finds he has often, if not habitually, identified himself with certain misconceptions of man, involving unworthy traits or discordant bodily conditions, none of which could possibly be true of the perfect man God knows, made in the image and likeness of Himself, infinite Spirit.

Let us examine some aspects of such mistaken identity and the remedy, or counterfact, in each case. Suppose, for example, an individual has rather gloried in his pride, assuming it to be very much of a virtue, and has uttered such statements as these: "I have too much pride to endure such treatment;" or, "I could never do that; I am too proud."
