In a recent issue of The Roman Forum, a writer suggests that the teachings of Christian Science are, in certain respects, similar to the Japanese doctrine of Shintoism. The statement is erroneous. The church which Mary Baker Eddy founded is unquestionably Christian, and has restored what had been lost to humanity for so many centuries—the healing of disease by prayer as practiced and urged upon his followers by the master Christian.

The author of the article correctly states that "Christianity is the American way of life" and that Shintoism is "the Japanese way of life," and aptly adds that "these two are in mortal combat."

To imply that Christian Science is in any respect similar to Shintoism is to conclude that Christianity is likewise similar, for Christianity and Christian Science are one. Pure Christianity is the basic teaching of Christian Science.
