I was first introduced to Christian Science...
I was first introduced to Christian Science over six years ago. My son, then aged three, had been ill "with scarlet fever. Both his ears were affected, and while one cleared up in four weeks, the other continued discharging and the child was deaf. At the end of seven weeks the doctor told me that he could not say when or if the ear would heal, and that the child would probably always have a weakness in that ear. I was very distressed and did not know where else to turn for help.
For a number of years previously I had been trying to find God and now I feel sure that my strivings led me to Christian Science. I told my troubles to a friend, who said she knew a Christian Science practitioner who might be able to help me. I had heard very little about Christian Science and that little had been unfavorable, but I felt I must not let an opportunity pass which might help my boy, so my friend arranged for me to go to the practitioner's home. I had not been there long before I experienced a sense of peace such as I had never known before. In this atmosphere of Truth and Love I told all my worries and fears. In return the practitioner told me of God's allness and love and tender care for His children, and of man, in God's image and likeness, pure and perfect now. While I listened I knew that my son was healed.
On my way home the thought came that all this was too good to be true. I earnestly asked God to show me if this was really the truth that Jesus had taught. The practitioner had lent me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I opened it at random. I found my answer on page 685. in the chapter entitled "Fruitage," which tells of the healing of a child's ear through the application of Christian Science. On arriving home, I ran upstairs as usual to see the boy, but unlike other times I did not ask about his ear. The nurse noticed this, and asked me why I had not made the usual inquiry. I said, "I do not need to ask; I know it is all right." She seemed very much surprised and said. "I don't know how you know, but it is all right." The healing had been instantaneous; the discharge had stopped and the child's hearing was normal. This healing has been permanent.
