Christian Science Committee on Publication for Minnesota Reports

During the year there have not come to my attention any attacks or misstatements concerning Christian Science in the newspapers in Minnesota which seemed necessary or wise to attempt to answer or correct. This is cause for being thankful.

At this time, forty-three newspapers in Minnesota are publishing excerpts from the Lesson-Sermon. Thirty-seven newspapers in Minnesota are now publishing the religious article from The Christian Science Monitor. Thirty-six of our Minnesota newspapers are now receiving the Gems of Thought service. By arrangement of the Committee on Publication, or local Assistants to the Committee on Publication, a prepared report of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church in Boston in June was printed in whole or in part in thirty-six Minnesota newspapers.

One measure introduced during a regular biennial session of our legislature was entitled. "A Bill for an Act Relating to Children with an Impaired Sense of Hearing and Authorizing the State Board of Health and Local Boards of Education to Institute a Statewide Program for Their Selection and Making an Appropriation Therefor." We were concerned with it because of the possibility that in its administration some might consider that it authorized a physical or medical examination or treatment. The sponsors of the bill very considerately consented to an amendment prepared by this Committee in the following language: "Nothing in this act shall be held or construed to require any child whose parent or guardian objects in writing thereto to undergo a physical or medical examination or treatment." The amendment was adopted in the committee of both the Senate and the House, but the bill itself never came to a vote on the floor of either branch of the legislature.
