"Break up your fallow ground"

Break up your fallow ground today.
Your fallow ground where harsh weeds grow—
The weeds of lack and ignorance,
Of nettled hate, where hot winds blow.

Break up your fallow ground and plant
The seeds of innocence and love.
Of life and hope and brotherhood.
Of God's own Word, all else above.

Enrich your soil with kindliness,
Well water it with righteous zeal,
And till it with expectancy
That can no sad misgiving feel.

Break up your fallow ground and claim
The harvest that the Father gives
To him who works and prays, and with
Christlike assurance nobly lives.
