God's Perfect Protection

In olden time the prophet Abraham
was called upon to sacrifice his son,
or so he thought, but truly God's command
meant not what he interpreted, but rather
that he must give up his false sense of son.
The prophet saw this not, yet strong in faith
and humble in obedience to his God
made preparations to destroy the lad.
He bound him with strong cords of carnal mind
and laid him helpless on the altar.
But when he raised his hand to slay the boy
the voice of Truth rent clouds of mortal sense
and gave command, "Lay not thine hand upon
the lad," and lifting up his eyes he saw
a ram caught by his horns within the thicket—
only false sense was there to sacrifice—
through strict obedience Abraham's son was saved!

We who have understanding are blessed indeed
when we can give up our false sense of son
at Love's command—loose him from bonds of fear,
mortality—and send him forth in Mind!
