Although reared in a good home...

Although reared in a good home and confirmed in the orthodox church, I was, as a young man, in a state of depression verging on despair. All material sources of happiness had failed. Meanwhile my parents had commenced the study of Christian Science, and very soon my eyes, too, were opened to this blessed truth, and I knew I had found "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." With joy I read "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur, and felt deep gratitude for our Leader's wonderful discovery.

Soon, however, self-condemnation filled my thought to such an extent that I became ill with a nervous breakdown. There followed days of spiritual inspiration and peace beyond words, and by his faithful witnessing the practitioner led me into spiritual light and health. Our newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, brought untold comfort at that time, and I now view with joy the ready acceptance it commands among my business associates and others.

The past fourteen years have brought health, joy, and useful activity, a wife who has known only Christian Science from infancy, and a small son whose advent was most harmonious, as a result of Christian Science treatment. While serving as organist in a Christian Science Society I was on one occasion ready and glad to be in my place, although recovering from severe blood poisoning. Joining my young friends around the fireside in a practitioner's home after church, I was told later by one of them that my swollen face could be seen returning to normal. I thank the practitioner for her steadfast work, which enabled me to return to duty within a few days.
