Christian Science was presented to me during my first year at college. While I was interested at once, I did not make practical use of it, or become a student of it until several years later, after the following healing occurred.

I had suffered from frequent sties on my eyes ever since childhood. They ran a course of from two to three weeks and were extremely painful. In my senior year, when one of these sties appeared, I decided to see a practitioner. I had never before asked for help in Christian Science. During the treatment in the practitioner's office all pain disappeared; that evening the sty opened, and within twenty-four hours all trace of the condition had gone. Thus the healing occurred within thirty-six hours of the time Christian Science treatment was applied. I have never had another sty since, and this healing occurred twenty years ago.

The belief associated with the appearance of the sties was that they were caused by excessive study and consequent eyestrain. After this healing and after obtaining my undergraduate degree I entered law school, where I spent much more time in intensive study than ever before. But the time given to text and case books on the law of contracts, torts, property, corporations, et cetera, was now supplemented by careful study of the text and case books of divine law, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
