The Simplicity of Metaphysical Practice
Applying Christian Science to the promotion of health, business, peace, security, and universal welfare is not a mysterious process. Not even is it difficult, learned, or labored. It is simplicity itself. It begins with the recognition of perfect God, perfect man, perfect universe—God as exuberant Life, munificent Mind, persuasive Love, vital Principle; man as the faultless manifestation thereof; and the universe appareled in celestial light, a friendly and glorious abode for the sons and daughters of the Almighty.
This reverent recognition of reality, which by implication renounces age, disease, dissolution, and strife personal or national, is the basis of a Christian Science treatment. It is a declaration of the truth which makes for freedom, individual and collective. It is prayer, not of blind faith or of agonized pleading, but of understanding and expectation, the prayer which silently insists and in a measure realizes the perfection of man and the universe, whatever the human mind may mistakenly suppose or say to the contrary. "Prayer," avers Emerson, "is the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view." Well does Tennyson observe,
