Over five years ago. I completely lost the use of my legs. I did not ask for a medical diagnosis of the case, but began to know the truth immediately.

My healing came slowly, but the lesson in patience was well worth the experience. Each day, for a number of months, I had to ascend and descend twenty steps to and from my bedroom. This journey to and from the second floor was very painful, but I never failed to thank God for the realization of perfection that was existent in my consciousness at all times. I managed to get about our home on my little boy's wagon. It was comforting to read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love."

One day, as I was knowing the truth and prayerfully asking God to show me the next step, my answer came in an unusual manner. Just as Jesus always found the supply of his needs at hand, even so my answer came when someone said to me, "Get up and walk!" It was at this point that I realized my work had been done and that I had but to avail myself of the activity that Christian Science demonstration had made possible. I immediately thanked God, and from that day on I walked, even though with the temporary use of crutches. Step by step I made my way around my room, then into the street, and finally replaced the crutches with a cane and soon afterward was completely healed.
