Another Front

How well we are informed about the many fronts on which the army, navy, and air forces are engaged, even to the remotest parts of the globe! In spite of the world's need for these fighting fronts, there is another vital front which must not be neglected or lost sight of, for this front also has its wartime functions to perform. In fact, if the battle fronts should gain their objective and this other front be neglected, most of our struggle would be in vain.

Qualifications for the military fronts are strength, youth, obedience, military training, equipment, and so on. But for the other front, the all-important qualification is spiritual understanding. Being active on this front is knowing God aright and man as His image and likeness. Ceaseless striving to see only this perfect spiritual man, coeternal and coexistent with God, is preparing us to be active on this great front and to participate in much-needed defense work.

Defense work is as indispensable and essential to this great front as it is to the combat fronts. We may not be compelled to defend against armies of men, but we are compelled to defend against armies of mortal thoughts coming to us through the media of the news and the radio. Obedient soldiers on this great front need to weigh the timely words of Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 538): "Truth places the cherub wisdom at the gate of understanding to note the proper guests."
