It has long been my desire to...
It has long been my desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science is and for what it has done for me and is doing for the whole world.
I was quite young in the study of Christian Science when a member of my family began to show alarming symptoms of infantile paralysis. I called a practitioner for help, but the symptoms piled up until the child could not move hands, feet, or head. I was told by the practitioner to eliminate as far as possible all fear, and to know that in reality only abundant activity, rightly controlled, existed.
I had studied medicine for a while before learning about Christian Science, and had believed to some extent in manipulation. Finding that Science, on the contrary, demanded reliance wholly upon Spirit, and not to any degree upon matter, gave me plenty to think about and much reading to do. Inside of three weeks, the child was playing and dancing, with no trace of the lie which had seemed to hold her, and our gratitude was beyond human expression.
