The influence of the Scriptures in the early days of our republic is plainly revealed in the writing and thinking of the men who made the nation possible. Quite apart from their professed allegiance to any particular form of religious doctrine, they found in the Scriptures that which shaped their course and determined their action. They believed in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.
There will be occasions when our way will seem shadowed and dark, when our course will be plagued by indecision and assailed by doubt. Providentially, there is always guidance if one knows where to look. Said the Psalmist, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
