"The pinnacle of praise"
In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 24), Mary Baker Eddy says: "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise." Something of what these words imply is found in the true sense of gratitude to God, the Giver of all good. It is highly important to rehearse our blessings to ourselves frequently, and to recount them to others when it seems right and wise to do so, but to scale "the pinnacle of praise" the primary emphasis in our testimony must be an appreciation of Him who, as the sole creative Principle of the universe, is the source and substance of all blessedness.
Beautiful, indeed, are the words used by the Apostle James to express his spiritual discernment of the true sentiment of thanksgiving, where he says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Be it the good gift of health, of sufficiency, of wisdom, of spiritual productivity and achievement—whatever its divine and perfect manifestation, God, divine Principle, Love, stands eternally as the one and only cause, the great Giver without whom there could be no good gifts.
On page 1 of "Rudimental Divine Science" Mrs. Eddy defines Christian Science as "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." Each day, then, we need to be more grateful to God for Christian Science, which, as "the law of God, the law of good," is found ceaselessly operating to lift human thought above the mortal, the finite, the fleeting, above spiritual barrenness and the snares and entanglements of knowledge based on the false testimony of the material senses. We need to be grateful, too, that through spiritual discernment we are enabled to perceive something of the realm of Spirit and to behold the real mansions of spiritual abundance, joy, health, and success, present to be demonstrated as the free gift of an ever-loving, ever-giving Father-Mother God.
