Signs of the Times
Reality of Divine Help
The Vicar of Battersea South Western Star, London
A man was writing a letter to some friends in Asia Minor, and he wrote out for them a list of weapons, concluding with one which, whatever happened, must always be in use. He wrote two thousand years ago. He was dealing with the weapons required in a war which is still raging, the war behind this war, of the forces of good against an immensely powerful spiritual army. The weapon on which St. Paul placed so much stress is prayer....
Prayer is not persuading a reluctant God to do our will. It is voluteering to do His will. It is putting ourselves at His disposal to be used to do that will in any way He chooses, at any cost to ourselves.
