Right Relationships

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

"And a little child shall lead them," declared Isaiah. In the American public schools, boys and girls of different races, creeds, and color many times grow up together. Education becomes not merely a preparation for living; it is actual living, with the development of culture, character, and citizenship as its high purpose.

A little girl found herself in a class in one of these schools in which she was one of a racial minority, as well as the only Christian Scientist. Misunderstanding arose among the children soon after the school year began. Intolerance and strife, which gained momentum outside school hours and school grounds, resulted. Neither the school nor the home seemed able to cope with the condition; various methods used to remedy it proved unsuccessful.

One day the child came home after the morning session at school, saying she was afraid to go back. Earnestly she and her mother sought to solve the problem that confronted them. Perhaps because all material means had failed, both of them were now more ready than before to turn wholeheartedly to God for help. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," they read these words by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 571): "At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you."
