I wish to express my most sincere...
I wish to express my most sincere and humble gratitude for a healing which I experienced a few years ago while attending a Christian Science lecture. I was a very young student at the time, and have been grateful that I was not afraid to take my stand for Truth under seemingly trying conditions.
Previous to the time when I became interested in Christian Science I had what surgeons called a very serious major operation, which left a scar down the front of the abdomen. One day in hurrying to answer the doorbell, I slipped and fell to the floor, severing the incision. This caused me great discomfort.
We had just moved from another city, and I did not realize that I could have found a practitioner through The Christian Science Journal. I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and the Bible, but did not seem to get results. By this time I was becoming disturbed, for two weeks had passed and I frequently became nauseated when I stood on my feet.
One Friday morning my husband, who had been patient with me, said that if I did not see a doctor that day he was going to take me to one when he returned from work. I asked him to give me just that day, and said that if I was not improved I would go with him to the doctor in the evening.
When he had left for work I can remember the joyous feeling which came over me, for I was sure I was going to prove the wonderfulness of Truth. I picked up the morning paper, and there before me was advertised a Christian Science lecture for that very afternoon at three o'clock. With unexplainable joy I knew that I had been rewarded.
Just how I arrived at the church I never remembered, for it was quite a distance across the city, but I did arrive. On the way there the quotation from the Bible, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you," kept coming to my consciousness, and also the first half of the statement from Science and Health (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." With a deep sense of humility I had really felt God's guidance, and I knew there was a message there for me.
The only thing I could remember about the lecture afterwards was that the lecturer had made the statement, "God is my Life." When the lecture was over I could hardly believe it had all been given, for I had been completely unconscious of the people around me or the flight of time. God had surely known my desire, and I was free. So well do I remember that my first thought of rejoicing was not so much for the freedom from discomfort or pain, but for the grand realization that I could now prove to my husband that God did not forsake me in time of need. This healing took place, if I am not mistaken, about 1933, and has been permanent.
For this healing and many others I am sincerely grateful; also for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for teaching in the Sunday school, and for other branches of the work, and for the blessed privilege of class instruction. There are not enough words to express my full gratitude.—(Mrs.) Mildred Ruth Olson, St. Louis, Missouri.
