Christmas Is God's Answer

Christmas is God's answer to the world's bewildered cry, "Save us."

From what must men be saved? From war, from hate, from fear, from injustice, from poverty, from sin, disease, and death; from ignorance of the fatherhood of God, expressed in the brotherhood of man, and from ignorance of the way to realize this enduring fact in our daily lives. Here is humanity's great need. Christmas stands a reminder of God's eternal provision for this need. Christmas points the way of sure salvation from all that would separate us from the Life that is God.

Christmas, to the Christian world, is a time when thought is turned, in love and respect, to the nativity of Jesus. The shepherds and the Wisemen, recognizing the appearing in human affairs of God's messenger, came to Bethlehem to honor and to give. Today the students of the Christ Science which Jesus taught can find in Christmas what their discerning Leader found. "Christmas to me," Mrs. Eddy says, "is the reminder of God's great gift,—His spiritual idea, man and the universe" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 262).
