Spiritual Vision

In Christian Science we begin not only to understand the true nature of the divine Mind and its spiritual creation, but also to see the illusive nature of mortal mind and its material manifestation. This enlightened recognition comes only through constant consecrated spiritual activity.

The Bible declares, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." We, as students of Christian Science, must look deep into reality to find the underlying truth of all that really exists. But in order to get a practical, workable knowledge of Christian Science, it is not only necessary to have a correct view of God, Spirit, and His creation, man and the universe; it is also highly essential to know that matter, material man, and the material universe are merely subjective states of the human or mortal mind, and that this mind is erroneous, a supposititious state of being.

Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 252), "A knowledge of error and of its operations must precede that understanding of Truth which destroys error, until the entire mortal, material error finally disappears, and the eternal verity, man created by and of Spirit, is understood and recognized as the true likeness of his Maker." In order to be successful in solving our daily problems, one of the first things that we, as students of Christian Science, learn, is to consider our problems from the mental standpoint; to see that matter is the manifestation of mortal mind; to understand that mortal mind is unreal, and that its hypnotic illusion, mesmeric influence, animal magnetism, unless seen and rejected, would blind us to our true state of consciousness.
