In the Glossary of our textbook...

In the Glossary of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 583), we are given the definition of "Church" as: "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle. The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick."

Although Mrs. Eddy has passed from our sight she has always been a living presence to me. I find her in her writings. Mrs. Eddy brought the living Christ to us, and gave us a better understanding of the Master, Christ Jesus.

A four-year college course was made possible by the application of the truths as taught in Christian Science. My senior year in college brought its own reward. I was asked to serve as a student assistant in swimming. This position, with a full senior course of study, including a post-graduate course, and outside activities, called for another demonstration of the power of God to meet all our needs, and the demonstration was made.

Giving birth to two children without pain provided more reasons for gratitude for the teachings of Mrs. Eddy.

I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. At the time that I was accepted into The Mother Church I was reminded of the three daily duties, as given in the Church Manual, Article VIII, Sections 1, 4, and 6. I have been very grateful for this reminder. I also wish to express gratitude for the Editors of The Christian Science Publishing Society, who so ably edit the Christian Science periodicals, which it is a privilege to subscribe for and read. In these periodicals is enough material for a splendid education. To those lecturers whom it has been my privilege to hear, and to the practitioners and friends who have so lovingly aided me in my times of need, I am thankful.—(Mrs.) Mildred Holmes Green, Des Moines, Iowa.
