Witness

From Letters, Substantially as Published

May I claim the courtesy of your columns to answer "Truth's" letter on Christian Science, or rather on his mistaken and obviously biased view of this subject. Perhaps the most effective answer would be to quote from the religious Tenets of Christian Science, to which all members of the Church of Christ, Scientist, subscribe. They are found on page 497 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The first two Tenets are:

"As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.

"We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness."

Words alone do not suffice, proof and demonstration are requisite, and it is on this basis that Christian Science is found to be reinstating "primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17).
