In a recent issue a report was published on proceedings before the military court of the sixth division. In it is made mention of "Jehovah's Witnesses," followed by the words, "formerly disciples of Christian Science." This latter remark is incorrect. "Jehovah's Witnesses" form a sect which is entirely separate from Christian Science, and Christian Science does not teach or support objection to military service. In our army there are many Christian Scientists, and I do not know of a single case where one would have refused to fulfill his duty. Christian Science teaches, in accordance with Holy Scripture, "Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God the things that are God's." The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 277), "If our nation's rights or honor were seized, every citizen would be a soldier and woman would be armed with power girt for the hour."
