I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing, but because of a growing dissatisfaction with the insecurity and doubt that was coming into my business activities. At the time, I knew nothing about Christian Science, but through a friendship with two students who were truly living and practicing its teachings, I got some glimpse of its absolute rules for healing the sick. However, I had no idea the same rules could be successfully applied in business until I attended my first Christian Science lecture. After this lecture I returned to the home of our friends to learn more about the lecturer's practical statements of truth, for I had a great desire to know how I might best apply them. The following morning I was off to business with a grand sense of joy, confidence, and security. Several days later I received a promotion to an executive position in another city with the same organization. Could this be a Christian Science demonstration, I asked myself, or would it not have taken place anyway? I immediately realized the change that had taken place in my thinking the evening I attended the Christian Science lecture. Surely this change in my own thinking was the outcome of the operation of the divine law of which I had been given some glimpse. This only increased my desire to get a clearer understanding of the teachings of Christian Science and its application to my daily affairs.

My next proof of the operation of God's law followed shortly in the removal of eyeglasses, which I had worn for astigmatism. I had used the glasses for the previous four years. The light that was filling my consciousness was truly great. We read in Isaiah, "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light." I too was seeing "a great light," which is guiding me today in my every activity.

The following year I experienced another healing, that of chronic indigestion. This condition had prevailed for over twelve years, during which time I had resorted to many remedies, including treatment from doctors specializing in stomach disorders. This healing came about as the others had—through a desire to know more and more of the absolute law of God and its ever-present power to meet all my human needs.
