In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." I feel I must record the manner in which this truth was demonstrated to me. During the months immediately preceding the birth of our baby daughter, with the loving help of a practitioner I studied references on "spiritual creation," which, Christian Science teaches us, is the only creation, and I searched the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings for the spiritual interpretation of them. Always we worked from the basis that God is Father-Mother. Mrs. Eddy says on page 336 of Science and Health, "God is the parent Mind, and man is God's spiritual offspring." I realized that creation is a compound idea of infinite Spirit, God, and already exists in Mind, and that this perfect concept had but to be unfolded in my consciousness.

During this time of study I enjoyed excellent health. The birth of my baby was natural and harmonious, and no medical aid was sought or felt necessary. Both my husband and I were profoundly grateful for the consecrated work of those two dear students, the midwife and the practitioner, who enjoyed with us this beautiful demonstration of God's goodness and love.

The baby was born in the morning, and on the evening of the same day we experienced the first intensive air raid in the vicinity in which we lived. I shall never forget the exultant state of mind I was in throughout that raid. I was upon the mountaintop, high above the mortal conflict and acutely aware of God's presence and protection. The words from one of our hymns (No. 139) were constantly with me:
