Lecturer: Judge Samuel W. Greene; introduced by Van Dyke Burhans, who said:—

The human need for health, protection, and peace has always caused prayerful thought to be directed to divine power. In the Bible it is related, in the fourth chapter of I Chronicles, that a devout man named Jabez called on God in these words: "Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!" His prayer was answered; for it is written, "And God granted him that which he requested."
