A Firm Foundation

[Written Especially for Young People]

The island of Manhattan, being of rock formation, provides a firm base for building purposes. In erecting such great structures as the Woolworth and Empire State buildings, the engineers made sure that the foundations went deep enough to counterbalance any possible strain on the superstructures.

Nature also does this in her way, for our great trees have a proportionate balance of roots to enable them to withstand the storms.

So, too, the foundation of our thinking must be strong and deep, that we may be able to stand firm in times of stress. We are all familiar with Jesus' parable about the two houses. "The rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew" and swept away the house that was built on the sand; but the house that had a rock foundation stood the test.
