"Keys of the kingdom"
In the book of Revelation the beloved disciple John has written, "These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it." It is interesting to note that the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has twice quoted this passage in her inspired textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It is given on the title page, "Key to the Scriptures" (p. 499), and again (p. 579) under the chapter title "Glossary." "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life," Mrs. Eddy writes in the same work (p. 497); and Christian Scientists find in the Christian Science textbook the "key" which unlocks the treasures of spiritual understanding contained in the Bible, opening the way to dominion over material beliefs and practices.
Christ Jesus said to Peter: "Upon this rock I will build my church. ... And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven." Indeed, through his words and works the Master has given the method of salvation to all mankind for all time. The truths embodied in the words and demonstrations of the ancient seers and prophets, in the accomplishments of the Master, and in the revelation of Christian Science by Mrs. Eddy are for all. Demonstration is in proportion to our use of the truth in right thinking and acting in daily, yes, hourly practice. It is not eough that we use the understanding we glean for ourselves alone. The world has need of our correct thinking, and a Christian Scientist's prayer for the world should be regarded as a very important part of his daily activity.
We need to watch every thought which comes to us in our daily activities. Right now is the time to discover what we are thinking, and whether error is seemign to deprive us of the abundant supply of good which the loving Father has provided for His children.
