Reno, Nevada (First Church).—Dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Reno, located at 501 Riverside Avenue, took place on Sunday, November 24, 1940. Services were held in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The subject of the Lesson-SErmon from the Christian Science Quarterly was "Soul and Body."
The background and history of the new church reads as follows: "In November, 1906, four students of Christian Science met at the home of one of their number at 115 Elm Street, for the purpose of beginning a systematic study of Christian Science. Very shortly thereafter, the attendance having increased, larger accommodations were secured in Harmony Hall, 244 Sierra Street. Here First Church of Christ, Scientist, Reno, was organized and incorporated on August 5, 1907. The initial lecture was delivered in the Byington Building in the following February.
"Due to the growth of the business district, further building on newly acquired property on Granite Street was deemed inadvisable, and early in 1936 a committee was appointed to investigate a suitable church site. A gift from a generous donor enabled the members to purchase lots at 501 Riverside Avenue, and further gifts enabled them to proceed with the building. The ground was broken on October 7, 1938, and on Tuesday morning, December 20, the cornerstone was laid in the presence of church officers and necessary assistants.
