Too long have I withheld written acknowledgment of the healings and blessings which the study and application of Christian Science have brought into my life.
When I was a young girl, Christian Science was presented to my father and healed him of a physical disorder which medical doctors had failed to cure. Shortly after this my sisters and brother and I were sent to a Christian Science Sunday School. I value the six years I was privileged to attend, for it gave me a foundation on which to build in Truth. During the intervening years I have had many proofs of God's power to heal, correct, and meet our needs.
Ten years ago I was stricken with blood poisoning in my hand, which caused infection and discoloration to spread up one arm and as far as my breast. Although I turned to Christian Science for healing, I almost despaired of my life. The practitioner, detecting my fear, gave me this reference from "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 113): "Divine Love is our hope, strength, and shield. We have nothing to fear when Love is at the helm of thought, but everything to enjoy on earth and in heaven." To me this was like a buoy. Continuing to keep Love at the helm of consciousness and striving to rise superior to suggestions and to see my true selfhood, I opened my Bible and found this forceful passage in Psalms, "In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me." Instantly I saw that my life could not be touched by evil, neither could poison enter my true being; therefore, my life was not dependent on good or bad blood. I no longer felt helpless. Several hours later an opening appeared in one of my fingers, and the elimination of the discordant condition was soon completed.
