Christian Science came to me at a time when physically...
Christian Science came to me at a time when physically and mentally I was in the depths of despair and mental darkness. I could see no way out either from the physical discomforts, which seemed many and very real, or from the hopelessness of the mental unrest which was binding me.
After I had been in a state of semicoma and intense pain for two days and nights, and the condition had grown more aggressive, no relief having been received from the medical faculty, a loving friend recommended calling in a Christian Science practitioner. This recommendation was accepted by a member of the family, and the practitioner arrived about three o'clock in the morning. I experienced an instantaneous healing. The peace, joy, and spiritual awakening that came with those few moments with the practitioner cannot be expressed in mere human language. Instead of spending two weeks in bed as had been deemed necessary by the physicians, I was up early the same morning and drove sixteen miles to take flowers to the practitioner, to express my gratitude for this rich blessing.
I had known nothing of Christian Science until this time and knew not how I had obtained such freedom from physical and mental agony. But I felt very close to God, and experienced an awakening which hitherto I had not known. The world, which had seemed colorless and meaningless, now took on a hue of loveliness and beauty which transcends all words to depict, and this Christly light and beauty have grown more radiant and real through the hours I have spent in study and meditation of Truth. Hopelessness, discouragement, and deep mental depression have given way to the unfoldment of spiritual reality.
