When I was eleven years old I was fitted with eyeglasses
When I was eleven years old I was fitted with eyeglasses. The oculist reported a bad case of astigmatism. He said that one eye was doing most of the work, and that there was an abnormality of the eyeball, all of which would necessitate the continuous wearing of glasses for the rest of my life. This condition continued throughout my school and college experience, but in an aggravated form. There was much discomfort, pain, and inconvenience, accompanied by indigestion, which frequently interrupted my studies. Occasionally I was obliged to spend a full day in my room, unable to read or eat, and in pain if I tried to move the eyeballs in any direction.
Finally, I accepted the invitation of a friend to accompany her to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Christian Science church. During this service I heard one testimony which impressed me with the power of its message. I met the testifier later, by appointment. She told me to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and she gave me a treatment. I was instantaneously healed. I have not worn glasses again, and have never had any further pain in my eyes. That was many years ago.
I later became a student of Christian Science, and began to understand in some degree the operation of this Science of Christianity, which had healed me through the loving prayer of another. I began to get results from my own application of Truth. Class instruction immeasurably aided me to maintain clear thinking and spiritual alertness.
