South London Observer

In a recent issue, the confusion apparent in a correspondent's views of Christian Science calls for correction. The assertion that Christian Science is not Christian does not coincide with the purpose for which Mrs. Eddy organized her church. I would refer the critic to the

Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 17), where it is written: "At a meeting of the Christian Scientist Association, April 12, 1879, on motion of Mrs. Eddy, it was voted,—To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."

Your correspondent is evidently unaware of the healing work accomplished by Christian Science. He would gain first-hand knowledge of this by attending a Wednesday evening meeting at a Christian Science church. Christian Science is gaining adherents not only on account of its unanswerable logic, but also because of its healing works.
