Beholding Man in Science

Students of Christian Science gratefully recognize that in discovering and making practicable the truths of the Science of Christ, or Christian Science, their Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has provided for them, and for all who will accept it, the true remedy for every ill, be it sin, sickness, sorrow, fear, or lack.

The teachings of Christian Science, in conformity with Holy Writ, aver that God, divine intelligence, made all, and that He saw everything which He had made and pronounced it "very good." The basis of treatment in Christian Science is the steadfast knowing that the perfect God could create, and has created, only a perfect creation, man and the universe, and that He governs and protects this creation through infallible spiritual law, whose eternal operation cannot be set aside by counterfeit material laws.

Perpetually beholding man as made in the divine likeness of Deity enables one effectually to eradicate the stains and stigmas which the false beliefs of the flesh would endeavor to attach to him, and brings to light the true idea, or spiritual man, in all his transcendent beauty, harmony, and loveliness. Christ Jesus, whose whole earthly career was spent in doing good, employed this method in his unparalleled healing ministry. In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy sets forth Jesus' method in these arresting words (pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Jesus' spiritual perception pierced the mist of materiality; and where fallen man appeared to mortals, he saw the calm, clear expression of the grace, goodness, and glory of infinite Life and Love. He admonished his followers, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
