"The strong deliverer"

Deliverance from evil and from the fears which tempt men to believe that good is not infinite and ever present, is not won by means of escape; it is not learned by depending upon others; it is not earned by waiting impotently until the danger has passed. Men are delivered from sickness, from sin, and from all forms of bondage by understanding the law of God and their intelligent, inalienable right to exercise it, on their own behalf, on behalf of humanity.

Jesus came preaching deliverance. Others before him had done this also. With him, however, it was not the assurance of what one day should be granted to the faithful and obedient; it was the evidence of what was taking place in their midst. It was not prophecy; it was fulfillment. The many whom he found bound, physically, morally, spiritually, were set free. During those three years of his ministry, Christ Jesus was establishing for all time the eternal fact of deliverance, not for the few but for the multitude. Sometimes thousands at a time, as in the feeding of those who followed him into the wilderness, saw the operation of spiritual law on their behalf, and this was not because of what he did; it was not even because of what he said; but it was always because of the truth which he knew. In the measure that we know it also it is for us to exercise it, to abide with it. There is nothing mysterious about it, but it demands the qualities that he manifested. It demands oneness with the Father, humility and sinlessness; and above all it demands love as he understood and expressed it.

Paul was in no doubt as to present deliverance, for he wrote, "Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son."
