Having received many blessings through the study and application of the truths taught in Christian Science, I am impelled to relate an experience which may help others who are passing through a similar testing time.

My first healing occurred when I was six months old. Our family physician had diagnosed the trouble as chronic bowel complaint, and had passed sentence that I could not possibly live more than a few days. My mother sought help in Christian Science, and I was healed with the first treatment. I was taught in its Sunday school as a child, knew no other religion, and had no other physician. However, as time passed, I made no sincere effort to assimilate the teachings or to "imbibe the spirit" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 495). I merely drifted along apathetically. During the period of the World War, an accident occurred which left me with hernia. I was fully aware of what my remedy was, but I was too mentally lazy to do the necessary work in order to correct my thinking. Instead, I resorted to the wearing of a truss, but promised myself that at a more convenient season I would take up the proper work in Science.

In 1924 I found myself in a strange city, practically penniless, in an unproductive line of work, and with chaos, discouragement, doubt, fear, and failure besetting me on every side. Through The Christian Science Journal I was led to seek aid from a practitioner, who lovingly responded to my despairing cry for help.
