When I was a resident member of the staff of a boarding...

When I was a resident member of the staff of a boarding school, a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel was lent to me. Until that time I had never heard the words "Christian Science." The truth in the articles in that periodical was irresistible. I bought a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and studied it. The new concept of God so changed my thought that I was healed of eczema and of other ailments, and my health was established. Before this occurred I had been given six months' leave on account of illness, but had returned to my work in much the same condition. From the day that Christian Science began to educate my thinking, until I took up full-time practice in Christian Science—a period of thirty years, with a full timetable and congenial occupation—I was never absent from work on account of illness, nor have I experienced what is called unemployment.

The change in my health was so noticeable that a colleague asked me what had worked the cure. She, too, accepted Christian Science and experienced the Christ-healing. Another colleague joined us, and we were later able to join a Christian Science Society. When a fourth member on the staff began to find the joyful tidings, the school authorities, knowing nothing of Christian Science, were disturbed by the growing interest in it, and the three who were members of the society were dismissed. This seemed a testing time, but divine Love, which meets the human need bountifully, led each of us to her right post. Nineteen years on the staff of a college, with freedom to take office at the neighboring Christian Science church, brought many opportunities for using and sharing my treasure.

A seal much valued by my family, bearing the inscription, "All's Well," was posted to me at college. On returning from my Association meeting I found that the seal, which I had never seen, had been inadvertently thrown into the wastepaper box four days before. Usually, contents of these boxes were destroyed in the furnace, but this time all papers were stacked in a hut in preparation for a bonfire. I had gained from our Association meeting the inspiration which all class students know. No suggestion of loss could overcome me. Had we not heard that harmony is the law of God, and was not all indeed well? I opened the hut doors and saw paper stacked from floor to ceiling. I put out my hand with confidence in divine guidance and took hold of a small screw of tissue paper. In it was a hard object. Divine Love had restored to me the tiny seal.
