The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Rochester, Minnesota (First Church).

Lecturer: Charles V. Winn; introduced by Dwight J. Merriam, who said:—

How often we hear Christian Scientists say that, in handling a problem, they "declared the truth"! To anyone unacquainted with Christian Science, this may sound rather strange. However, in the Gospel of John we find the promise, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This means freedom from sin, disease, poverty, and other discordant conditions. I can testify to the practicability of this promise, for I have been healed of influenza, malaria, a broken finger, a goiter, smallpox, and many other difficulties. It is through right thinking that healing takes place; and as we gain a clearer understanding of Christian Science, we see the way to overcome all that is mortal and material. The purpose of a Christian Science lecture is to help us gain this understanding of Christian Science: what it is, how it works, and what it can do for all of us.
